Earlier this month, The Humane Society of the United States assisted authorities with rescuing 166 dogs and cats from a severe neglect situation in rural Adams County, Ohio. Among the sick and injured dogs was a big, boisterous chocolate lab who was chained near the front of the property. His chain had become tangled in the rotting deer carcass that served as his only food source. As protocol, we scanned all 166 dogs and cats for a microchip and discovered that this lab had a name—Chuckie—and a family in Indiana who had been missing him for more than 5 years. This weekend, we reunited Chuckie with his loving family. He’ll spend the holidays at home where he belongs.
