God was first featured in the 1992 episode Homer the Heretic. He is the only reoccurring character in the four-fingered universe to appear with five full digits on each hand. Is this mind blowing to the characters in the show? The Simpsons is the smartest show in the history of television, so there MUST be a reason, right? Or am I over thinking it?
Turning to the internet I found that the potential answer is mathematical. In Simon Singh’s book, The Simpsons and their Mathematical Secrets (yes that’s an actual book), The Simpsons live in a based 10 world, but with 4 fingers on each hand. In the real world, many believe that based 10 came about in math due to humans having 10 fingers. In the Simpsons world, when God or Jesus has 10 fingers, 5 on each hand, it makes them unique.
This isn’t really as exciting of an answer as I was hoping for….
